Summary: The Washington, D.C. and Boston, MA tour, scheduled for March 24-29, 2019 (during Spring Break), is a unique educational opportunity open to all Silver Valley High School students, their parents, and staff. The tour will include visits and tours to locations that were integral in the founding of the United States, including the Boston Harbor, Alexandria, the Freedom Trail, Concord, and Salem, in addition to visiting some of the top museums in the country. Additionally, we are hoping to add a unique experience by participating in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as, a tour of the White House.

This tour will be hosted by WorldStrides, an educational tour company that has focused on student centered fun, and education tours for over fifty years. The company offers many payment options to allow for the maximum amount of students to attend.

This tour is open to the entirety of the school. The only restriction is that students must be PBIS compliant. Some fundraising will be done to help offset the cost of the trip, but the majority of it will be student paid.

If the tour itself wasn't enough, WorldStrides offers college credits following the completion of curriculum that will be available after the trip. These credits are a great way to jump start a student's post-high school academic trip.

Approximately 10 students have signed up to attend this field trip, with 2 chaperones.
Funding: Students will be paying for the trip with no cost to the school or district.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Governing Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for SVHS students to travel to Washington, D.C. and Boston March 24-29, 2019.
